In 2024, Denmark and India launched a strategic partnership in the health sector, founded on peer-to-peer collaboration between their respective health authorities. The initiative aims to strengthen protection against health threats and enhance access to safe, effective, and inclusive medical care, supporting India's progress toward achieving healthy lives and well-being for all at all ages (SDG 3) and contributing to poverty alleviation (SDG 1).

The cooperation aims to support India’s efforts to improve framework conditions for:

1. Prevention and management of AMR and Infectious Disease Preparedness and
   
   
2. Access to medical treatment through strengthened regulatory processes
   
   

Denmark’s Statens Serum Institut, a leading institute with expertise in both human and veterinary preparedness, exemplifies the One Health approach, which emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. This approach, combined with Denmark’s practical experience, can significantly bolster India’s efforts to combat health threats, including antimicrobial resistance (AMR), through integrated surveillance. Additionally, Denmark's efficient approval processes and a unique reimbursement system, managed by the Danish Medicines Agency, have made its generic medicines among the most cost-effective in the EU. As India prioritizes generics to enhance access to affordable medicines, Denmark can offer valuable insights to support these efforts.
